CASA ROSADA, Arco da Calheta
Casa Rosada, spacious 3 bed/2 bath holiday home above Arco da Calheta in stunning countryside with glorious views out to the ocean

Approach from road

View from terrace and house

A home from home. Casa Rosada is a modern, fully equipped villa sitting in a commanding position overlooking the sea and countryside above the village of Arco da Calheta on the southwest coast of Madeira. It is large enough to cater for up to six people yet provides a couple with the privacy, comfort and space rarely found in an apartment.

Sun terrace with BBQ

Main room with wood burning stove for winter evenings

All bedrooms have great views

Downstairs the comfortably furnished open-plan living/dining area faces south and has cable TV, DVD and CD/cassette players. A wood burning stove keeps this area cosy on chilly winter evenings. Glass doors lead out on to a large sunny terrace which has spectacular views of the sea and surrounding countryside with loungers, tables, chairs and a built-in barbeque. The large kitchen has everything you need for self-catering. Upstairs there is a master (double) bedroom with ensuite, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom plus a family shower room. There is off-road parking for up to two cars accessed by a steep, narrow country road typical of those found on Madeira.  Nearby caretakers will welcome you and are on hand if needed during your stay.

The views of sea, cliffs, fields and mountain from Casa Rosada are often enough to keep you sitting out on the terrace all day, but the house is also ideally situated for more active pursuits. A seasonal levada runs past the property and walks (from easy to challenging) begin from the front door; a centre for paragliding and mountain biking activities is also within walking distance. The nearest cafe/restaurant serving typical regional food is just a short walk away.

Well away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas on the island, you can enjoy rural living and yet, thanks to the new road system, be within easy reach of Funchal and the island’s top attractions. Within ten minutes' drive you have Madeira's only golden sandy beach with superb sea swimming at Calheta which also has a large marina, restaurants and a supermarket; or 25 minutes will bring you to the laurel, levada and waterfall wonderland of Rabaçal and the wide open expanses of the Paul da Serra. Arco da Calheta is served by buses (15 minutes steep walk to bus-stops), but car hire is highly recommended to enjoy all the area has to offer.
